Try This Pizza Bar Just South of Denver

Littleton, CO has a delicious and unique pizza spot that is worth driving to if you are in the Denver area. It is called McKinners Pizza Bar, and it is just that- great pizza and a full bar. The atmosphere is jovial and intimate and on Saturday nights after 10pm it gets roaring with live music. There are old chandeliers hanging over the bar that mix surprising well with a fairly contemporary scene. This restaurant is mine and my husband's current favorite place to eat and drink. We like the small, privately owned, friendly vibe. They run drink specials that make it reasonable to stop in off the cuff and enjoy some down time.

The menu at McKinners has 15 specialty pizzas, 4 crust choices, as well as salads, sandwiches, ravioli, and finally, cheesecake, cannoli, and the best named dessert ever- tubbies nummies, which is fresh banana bread sauteed and finished with maple creme fraiche and toasted coconut. So good! A great specialty pizza is the prosciutto and pear with fontina and mozzarella cheese. It never occurred to me that pear could be a pizza topping, but it really works!

As for sandwiches, the Elvis IS the king. It is peanut butter, banana, honey, and thick sliced bacon on pane bianco bread. Sadly, these tasty sandwiches are all served with a side of bagged potato chips which cheapens the feel- but for the Elvis I will ignore any crummy side item.

The pricing at McKinners is decent.  You can come in and get a sandwich for 6-8 dollars a regular pizza for $9.25 for a 10" up to $16.50 for a 13" deep dish or $14.25 for a 16" traditional or cracker crust.  There are also appetizers like jalapeno poppers, pierogies, and boneless wings that run between $5-$8.  In the way of drinks, there is usually a $2.50 draft beer special with the choice of a couple of beers.  Lately it has been Harp and PBR- tough choice, but I made it.  They do also serve wine and mixed drinks, and run specials on certain drinks.
